Overview
Modern Foreign Languages at Calton Primary School intends to develop ‘global citizens’ through the celebration of culture and diversity with language skills. We foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world to enable them to navigate and contribute to an increasingly diverse society.
At Calton we value the different backgrounds and cultures that our students bring to our school community. It is important to us that children understand the value of learning languages to develop their appreciation of each other and their individual heritage.
How to support my child in Languages
Go Online – there are a range of resources and websites for individuals to develop their language skills. We recommend Duolingo which is free to use and has a whole range of languages to explore – including Welsh, French and Spanish
Use the Library – the library has a range of dual language books and audiobooks.
Holidays – grab a phrase book from the library and challenge each other to read signs, menus and information brochures when you are abroad.
Incorporate phrases into your everyday life, such as “Comment vas-tu?” (How are you?)
